Bear Valley Electric Service, Inc. Accelerates Clean Energy Production through Solar and Battery Storage Expansion

Bear Valley Electric Service, Inc. (BVES) entered into a partnership agreement with EDF Renewables to enhance its solar production and energy storage capabilities in the Big Bear Valley. The Bear Valley Solar and Energy Storage Projects aim to provide essential renewable energy resources during emergencies and bring BVES closer to achieving its mandatory renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals. These crucial local power generation assets will increase power resiliency and ensure long-term price stability for ratepayers. BVES intends to submit an application to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for approval to own and operate both the Storage System (Battery Project) and the Bear Valley Solar Energy Project (Solar Project).

As California transitions to carbon-free resources, these new projects will help BVES meet its Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target of 60% by 2035, as envisioned by Senate Bill 100. The move also further strengthens local service and cost reliability for customers.

“Bear Valley Electric Service, Inc. is committed to increasing our renewable supply portfolio and planning for a changing climate. We are thrilled to expand our renewable portfolio with these projects,” said Paul Marconi, BVES, Inc. President, Treasurer & Secretary. “We look forward to securing the CPUC’s approval and bringing additional clean and renewable energy online for Bear Valley residents.”
